What to eat when you can’t sleep
*******************
Having trouble sleeping recently? Then try to change your dietary regime to better your chances of a good night’s rest.
Avoid anything that overworks the digestive system, especially foods containing flour and sugar – like cakes, chocolates and biscuits.
Avoid processed foods, which contain many chemical additives that could possibly disrupt sleep. Keep an eye on how much salt is in your diet, as it raises blood pressure.
Also avoid eating raw vegetables and fruits just before you go to bed, as they also stimulate the body.
This list sounds a little long, but there ARE many foods that can help ease insomnia. For your evening meal, try root vegetables, pasta and rice, which contain unrefined carbohydrates. Eat these with foods like milk, eggs, meat, nuts, fish, bananas and pulses.
These foods combine with the carbohydrates to create tryptophan, which builds up serotonin. This chemical increases your sense of well-being and helps you sleep.
The best advice of all is to not eat before you go to sleep. The body goes into overdrive when trying to digest food, when it should be resting.
Warm Wishes
Sleep well
