A Few Japanese Customs

A long handled spoon ladles the powerful powdered green tea used in the tea ceremony into a bowl.

For making Japanese music there is a stringed instrument named the koto. The koto is the national instrument of Japan.[

Wooden dippers are used to draw pure spring water to fill kettles used in the ancient tea ceremony.

Each tea master has her own dipper

The obi, a kimono sash, is often ornately embroidered. It emphasizes the waist, but also supports a woman's back when she is kneeling

There is an art to tying the obi. It is almost impossible to do it by oneself, owing to its weight and the precision required to do the back folds.

Taking care of gardens and flowers is also a Japanese custom and artform. Ikebana is flower arranging which is very popular in Japan.More than simply putting flowers in a container, ikebana is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together. ikebana often emphasizes areas of the plant, such as its stems and leaves, and draws emphasis toward shape, line, form.

Bonsai are also very common in Japan. It is a Japanese art form using miniature trees grown in containers.
