I have been to St. Peter today and despite the rain the whole world seemed represented there. It felt good to begin the New Year in souch close connection with other souls from all over the world.
With you too, even if you were not physically there ...
I had a chance to realize how important even only a few words of kindness can be. When I parked the car I heard a voice calling "Signora!". It was an old woman at the window on the second floor. She asked "Can you please tell me what day it is today?". I said: "It's the 1st of January and it is a Sunday". "Oh, a Sunday! ... you know since my husband died, I live alone and the days pass slowly and I forget what day it is". We talked a little while and in the end we wished each other a Happy New Year. "Dio vi benedica! ... God bless you!" were her last words. She had appreciated a little kindness. I thought about the painful solitude so many old people experience ... A proposition for the New Year: to be more present for those who need a little warmth, a little sign of kindness.
HAPPY NEW YEAR MY FRIENDS!
Love and Peace and Joy.
