Here are some very beautiful woodblock prints from the Cavallini archives.

- Kawase Hasui (1883-1957)

Known for his exquisite landscape prints, Kawase Hasui was one of the most prolific and talented shin hanga artists of the early 20th century. He designed over six hundred woodblock prints, mainly for the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo, although he also briefly worked for several other publishers. Many people feel that Hasui's most original work was done at the beginning of his career. Unfortunately, the blocks for Hasui's earliest prints were destroyed in the devastating 1923 Kanto earthquake and they were never reprinted. Consequently, Hasui's pre-earthquake prints are among the rarest and most sought-after shin hanga.

This post is for educational purposes.

I have discussed Japanese woodblock printmaking in another earlier topic.

Since it is winter in this part of the world I will post some very lovely winter scenes.

The snowflakes remind me of the beauty of creation,
and the mystery that is life.

Dear Margherita, I hope that you do not mind my posting your beautiful poem, it fits in well with this lovely artwork.

WHITE SILENCE by Margrit Rueger

The morning air carries
the fragrance of snow,
sparkling white beauty
reflecting in my eyes.

I plunge into this softness
this myriad of snowflakes
each a masterpiece of design
beholding a vision of peace.

My footprints across the field
a friendly message to the sky.
I am embraced by the woods,
aware of my perfect solitude.

My breath the only sound,
I let beauty and silence
enter and expand within
and my heartbeats dance.

I need not ask any questions.
All answers resonate in my heart,
through the magnificence of nature
I hear the divine language of Love.

Surrounded by infinite purity
I stand in stillness and awe
to heaven I raise my voice,
whispering words of praise.

I touch upon the mystery of life
merging with the glittering light.
I am the snow, the sun, the sky
one with the Source, I shine.

Winter, a lingering season, is a time to gather golden moments,
embark upon a sentimental journey, and enjoy every idle hour.

Thank you Sue and Inda for adding to this post,
and it lets us know that winter has its own beauty.
It also makes us wait for spring, and thoughts like these may enter our mind,

Many things
they bring to mind
cherry blossoms.

I love this thread.

We have the first snow here today, and this reminded me of this lovely post.

The cherry blossoms are still far away.

Love,
Sue
