Traumatized by China's earthquake, five of eight giant pandas have regained a healthy appetite for bamboo.

Five reserve workers are believed to be among those killed in the quake.

Thank you yoko.

I am happy to see that the pandas are healthy and enjoying their meal. This adds a bit of light to the darkness.

Thank you yoko.
This is very nice to know. There are not too many pandas left, so I am happy to see them enjoying their snack.

I read in the paper today that the quake zone pandas are under threat since a lot of their food has been destroyed.Only 7 of the original 63 are left in the Wolong Nature Reserve in the lush mountains of Sichuan province. Pandas have been moved to different habitats because there is a threat of landslides. Much of their local bamboo has been damaged and so they are given milk and biscuits.

Thank you for the update Sue.

As long as the pandas get to safety is all that matters.

I read that the Wolong preserve is at the heart of China's effort to use captive breeding and to use artificial insemination to save the pandas.

Conservation is never black and white, not even when it comes to saving pandas. There are fewer than 1,600 pandas left in the wild today and half of them live outside of protected areas. They share land with some 300,000 people and are scattered across forest fragments throughout the Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces of Southwest China.

Just a happy note from "HELLO" magazine.

This panda and her cub, in a German zoo, enjoy opening presents that were delivered to them. They had a very enjoyable day.

Love,
yoko
