Nuts can lower your risk of heart disease by as much as 35%
Unfortunately, many people aren't deriving any of these important health benefits, choosing instead to follow mainstream advice and follow a low-fat diet, which means nuts are out because of their fatty nature and high calorie content. Yes, nuts are high in fat but they contain high levels of healthy fats that are known to have heart-protective benefits. Most nuts are quite low in artery-clogging saturated fats. Enjoy a good snack with nuts. Love, Vicky |

Thank you for posting Vicky.
I know that nuts are really good for you, but unfortunately I cannot have them because I am allergic to nuts. I am really sorry that I can't eat them because they would be good for a number of problems that I have. Walnuts Walnuts are especially great because they have high levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Other nuts don't. Almonds Many studies show that almonds have real health benefits too. Almonds are a good source of protein and are high in antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron as well as vitamin E. Like other nuts, they also provide a good source of monounsaturated fat — the good fat that is needed for heart health. Love, Sue |

Thank you girls.
I eat some almonds and walnuts every day. Sorry Sue, that you cannot eat nuts.Obviously it goes without saying that nuts should not be eaten by anyone with an allergy to them. Not only are nuts good for you, but they taste great. Sincerely, Gisele |

Nice post. Several studies have tied the consumption of nuts with protection from heart attack, high blood pressure, diabetes, even Alzheimer's disease. Eating nuts on a regular basis can also help keep blood cholesterol and blood pressure in check - without weight gain. Nuts are an excellent source of protein, contain no cholesterol and are low in saturated fat. They contain arginine, an amino acid that may improve blood vessle function. Walnuts contain alpha linoleic acid, an omega-3 fat that's thought to protect against irregular heart rhythms. Other nutrients in nuts such as vitamin E, folate, magnesium, potassiun and fibre may also protect the heart. Oooops! I think he is having a blueberry. |

Thank you for sharing the information.
Nuts are grown all over the world. They are an intrinsic part of traditional dietary patterns in many regions where both blood cholesterol levels and the incidence of heart disease are low. I try and have some nuts every day. You can add them to your cereal, toss them on your salad or just have them as a snack. Love, yoko |

Thank you everyone for replying to my nutty post.
I am sorry Sue that you cannot have your nuts. Just what quantity of nuts should be eaten? Various studies suggest that 30 to 60 grams (1-2oz) of nuts should be consumed daily to gain the maximum benefits seen. Whether even larger amounts confer further benefits is currently unknown. Love, Vicky |

hmmmm this is an interesting and tasty thread, dear friends. I know about the healthy qualities about nuts, but one always learns something new. And I adore them!!
I love them alone or with other healthy things. I love them in a mixed salad. Pears and nuts go well together too. I love them in the pasta, especially pasta with gorgonzola and mascarpone(Italian cheese). And of course I love them in the cakes ... Just recently I made twice a cake with apples and nuts and cinnamon, hmmm veeeeeeery good! My mother was very much aware of the qualities of nuts too and taught me to use them too. Today I bought them, guess ... I want to bake another cake! It's nice to have a slice in the morning and it can be preserved in the fridge for a week. (but usually it does not last that long!) Thank you for this health enhancing post! Love and nuts! |
