Various studies have shown that coffee in moderation is beneficial for our health.

The Honolulu Heart Program, in the 1960's found Coffee to protect the brain cells from damage leading to Parkinson's didease.

Harvard researchers found that coffee may cut the risk of Type 2 Diabetes by 30%.

In Germany studies at the University of Muenster showed coffee to protect us against colon cancer.

Plenty of studies show that caffeine in a cup of coffee can increase alertness and improve performance in tests of mental function`

The latest evidence shows there is less to worry about than we once thought, and perhaps some unexpected benefits, so enjoy a cup of coffee a day.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF COFFEE

Coffee was first discovered in Northern Africa in an area known today as Ethiopia.

A popular legend refers to a goat herder by the name of Kaldi, who observed his goat acting amusingly frisky after eating berries from the bush. Curious about the phenomena, Kaldi tried eating the berries himself. He found that these berries gave him a renewed energy. The news of this energy laden fruit quickly spread throughout the region.

Monks hearing about this amazing fruit, dried the berries so that they could be transported to distant monasteries. They reconstituted these in water, ate the fruit and drank the liquid to provide stimulation for a more awakened time for prayer.

Coffee berries were transported from Ethiopia to the Arabian peninsula, and were first cultivated in what today is the country of Yemen.

From there coffee travelled to Turkey, where coffee beans were roasted for the first time in open fires.

The roasted beans were crushed , and then boiled in water, creating a crude version of the beverage we enjoy today.

Dear Inda you made me long for my Swiss Café Crème. In Italy they have their espresso which is too strong and I have never liked it. I only drink it with milk, a cappuccino now and then. In the morning I take coffee with milk. Only one in a day, otherwise I would be too nervous!

But even though at times I have privileged tea in the morning, I now prefer coffee... I love its fragrance and its good to know that it has some really good qualities.

This is the right time for a coffee without coffein ..... ready to sleep immediately

Love and Joy. Margherita Smile

hehe, Teo, your cartoon and signature give a new perspective on how to attain PEACE in the workplace Cool
aah, but here's my newest coffee discover, on the road to better health without giving up my java:
For those of you in Toronto, check out Merchants of Green Coffee...(MerchantsofGreenCoffee.com)
Green coffee beans keep for years. Roasted coffee is perishable. So, these people sell green beans which are organically grown, fairly traded and substainably produced...AND they are in Toronto.
I have a pound of their Arabica beans from CUBA - I put some in the oven for about 15 minutes for the first time today, and WOW! Fresh roasted beans, roasted to the darkness of my choosing. Not only did it create a wonderful aroma, but the coffee is absolutely fresh and without any bitterness...mmmmmm.
the only problem I see with this is that I might be tempted to drink too much of it at a time as it's soooooooo goooooood.sweety Googly RaisedBrows Bounce Eek Nut sweety

Thanks for the info Viive. I had no idea where to get green coffee in Canada. I always bring some green Kona coffee from Hawaii which I roast myself in a coffee roaster.
Now I know where to get it.

Yes Thanks for all the information and pictures of coffee with delicious baked goods. I couldn't start my day without it either.

Buttered croissants sounds like an excellent idea.

I've also heard that Coffee helps to prevent Alzheimers. Another reason to enjoy that morning cuppa.
