Inventory of offerings The offering formula also usually includes a more genetic and all-embracing phrase: "Everyting good and pure." ![]()

Thank you Inda. I lived in north Africa for quite a while, so I find this quite interesting, although I cannot remember much about the hyerogliphs. It makes me want to look things up again. Gisele

Thank you Gisele. I know you are interested in things Egyptian, so I found the Egyptian writing for: "everything good and pure." ![]()

Thank you Inda, I don't know much about Egyptian things, but I have always liked what I have seen. Their writing certainly is interesting. I know they buried their dead with all the things that they thought they would need in the afterlife. These messages are inspiring. Sue

Thank you for sharing this. I am like Sue, I don't know as much about Egypt as you and Gisele, but I find everything very interesting and educational. The Egyptian writing looks interesting and very beautiful. Vicky

To pass from life to the realm of dead - the Afterlife - was seen to be a 'moment of truth' for the ancient Egyptians. At this moment he or she faced judgment. From the New Kingdom into the Roman period ,some provisions could be made for the suitably resourced Egyptian to meet this trial of judgment with the help of spells or utterances included in the Book of the Dead, a copy of which would be buried with the deceased. Here is a section of a painted papyrus, Book of the Dead, Papyrus of Ani: Ani's Judgment. The heart of the dead man is weighed in the scales of the balance against the feather of righteousness. ![]()

Thank you for the picture of the Ani papyrus. Do you have the names of all the Gods and the individuals here? I am finding all this very interesting. Gisele

I still want to know who everyone is on Ani's papyrus

Hi Gisele, I did some research, but I don't know if I can tell you everythig. The god Anubis is a jackal-headed, human bodied, kneeling deity. To the right of the balance stands Thoth, the scribe of the gods. Behing Thoth sits a monster ready to consume Ani's heart if he fails to pass the test. At the top of the scene,( I won't be able to tell you who everyone is), but here is what I found: Re-Harakhty, Atun, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, Isis and Naephtys, Horus and Hathor. Ani and his wife Tutu are on the left. ![]()
