When The Dam Breaks

When the dam breaks,
I can’t fight back the tears,
All emotions come flooding,
Through all my thoughts and fears.

It rushes upon me,
Knocking me to my feet,
I close my eyes,
And drown in its defeat.

I sink towards the bottom,
Never reaching the ground,
Floating and drifting endlessly,
Without making a sound.

I raise my hand,
Towards the reflecting light,
Hoping to grasp onto something,
To not die without a fight.

And as I reach,
Sinking towards the end,
I feel the warmth of a touch,
Of a companion, a friend.

Breathing life into me,
My soul becomes alive,
And when the dam did break,
Your love helped me to survive.
