Hello to everyone!

I am wishing that you are all well .

As many of you may know, Bob and I have been extremely close to our friends Paul and Linda Luther and their children Christopher and Sarah, for over twenty years now. They are like family to us and we have seen each other through may trials and tribulations; the happy times as well as the sad. Well, unfortunately we have reached one of those sad times!!

Christopher Luther is a delightful, intelligent 23 year old young man with a very promising future. He just received a double degree at the University of Maryland last year in Philosophy and Languages. Lauren and Christopher have been in the same cla*s from kindergarten through college!

As many of you may have known, Christopher has spent the last nine months in China teaching English as a second language. On Monday, June 6, Christopher was on a third floor balcony in an apartment in China that collapsed. Christopher fell three stories and is currently in intensive care in a hospital in Wuhan, China. Christopher sustained a skull fracture causing serious bleeding and swelling of the brain and resulting in a coma. He has been on and off a ventilator as he has also sustained damage to his lungs and is battling pneumonia. Thankfully he has sustained NO spinal cord injury, but he has a long, long road to recovery.

Bob and I helped send Linda and Christopher's sister Sarah to China. They arrived there yesterday, safe and sound, and are currently at his side. Unfortunately the trip was EXTREMELY expensive (the plane was routed through San Fransico, two stops in Canada and then landed in Bejing where they had to board another plane to Wuhan!). The worst part here is that Christopher has medical insurance that is only good in China and therefore NO medical insurance in the United States!

Linda and Paul have exhausted their credit cards and savings. Bob and I have no credit cards and are rapidly depleting our savings account. And as many of you may know, I had my third major surgery just prior to Easter where they removed more intestine, one ovary, my gallbladder and half my stomach. My doctor has not released me to work yet so I am currently unemployed with a disability insurance carrier who is being investigated by the Department of Labor as they have NEVER paid anyone's claim EVER!! A lot of help that insurance was!

Anyway, the doctor's in China are hopeful that Christopher can be transported to The united States in about five days. There is a neurologist at the University of Maryland Hospital set up to oversee his care. The Chinese doctor's will not allow Christopher to be transported except by private jet. The trip alone is going to cost $45,000.00, not to mention his continuing medical bills when he gets here.

In order to help the Luther's so they do not have to sell their house and end up on the street, we have set up the "Christopher Luther assistance Fund". This fund is a Money Market account at Wachovia Bank and is being used 100% for his medical care. The account is set up in Christopher's name and is only accessible by Christopher or Ari Rebach, who is Christopher's power of attorney.

I am writing to beg and plead for a donation into this fund. If you please find it in your hearts to donate $1.00, $5.00, ($1,000,000.00 ha! ha! lol) anything you can part with. EVERY PENNY will help get him home and help Christopher's recovery. And he parents will also be able to keep their home.

Please, imagine (god forbid) that this was your child and the desperation you would feel knowing that you did not have the funds to do everything humanly possible to help him!!

"Thank you everyone for your prayers and wishes for Christopher. I found out a lot more about the conditions in the Chinese hosiptal and they are horrible. They have no pain medications or antibiotics. No paper products (ie: toilet paper) or even SOAP!! They do not even feed their patients! Christopher's mother must buy his food at the store and bring it to him! We should all stop and think about how lucky we all are!
Christopher seemed to be improving and we were in hopes of moving him to Vancouver on Tuesday but yesterday he had a stroke on the left side of his brain. And the estimated cost of his transfer went up by $100,000. I don't know what's going to happen.
